Spam!

Ever wondered how much spam gets sent to @nexodyne.com (and related) domains?

Me too, so I am in the process of finding out. There will be exciting statistics to follow, and possibly even some graphs as soon as I actually manage to list all of the spam messages in the spam folder.

In the meantime, why not post your guesses as to the number of mails we get per year that are classified as spam?

...Go!

The main reason is because our emails are in easily catched up by the spammers and this gets distributed from one spammer to other. If you use your emails mainly for directory submission you are surely going to get huge spams..

In the last year (9th June 2009 to 8th June 2010) we've received 2,083,436 e-mails auto-classified as spam.

Over the entire period (6th October 2001 - 8th June 2010), we received 7.16GB of spam.

Here's a fancy chart of the number of spam mails received per day between 6th October 2001 and 8th June 2010:

And here's the average number of spam mails received each hour:

That's insane - do these come to a catch-all email account or what?

Iridium 06-11-2010 01:13 AM

All mail received by the mail server passes through the spam filter, and is recorded, so this includes both spam destined for actual mailboxes on the server as well as mailboxes that don't exist. Of course there may be some legitimate messages that have been auto-classified as spam in these data but it's by far the minority!

I love that we get so much spam considering how small we are. Consider the volume of e-mails a place like neowin.net has when they have at least 300 members online at any given time

Looks neat, I wonder what caused that sudden increase between days 200 and 300.
